2009-2010 Capital Campaign
In 1999, the Town of Winchester came together with a dream. Our families were in great need of daily child care. Winchester residents envisioned something more than simple day care, however. They envisioned a place where learning was brought to children in a way that would not only prepare them for the years to come, but a place where they were nurtured and loved. The WLC is a quality, licensed program where parents could entrust their children to a caring professional staff while they pursue their daily work or schooling.
A group of concerned and motivated citizens pulled together, formed a board, raised money with generous donations and grants … and The Winchester Learning Center was born.
The WLC, Today
The Learning Center has been in a basement since its inception in 2001, and new state licensing rules will require an updated space by 2012. The current capacity of the Center is 36 children - limited to ages 1 through 6. Frequently families are placed on a waiting list because of the limited capacity.
Infant care is one of Winchester's most pressing unmet needs. Since our child care rooms are located below ground level, state regulations prohibit infant care in the current facility.

The WLC of The Future
This new building will help us meet Winchester's needs by allowing us to:
- Continue providing care for the children and families in our community for many years to come.
- Provide much-needed infant care.
- Continue giving a great start to our local children by developing a solid foundation in a clean, safe environment.
- Provide family resources and offer services for families in need.
Through the generous assistance of committed community members, tomorrow's Winchester Learning Center will be able to …
- Provide care for infants.
- Maintain a facility that meets or exceeds state licensing requirements.
- Provide care for whole families with children from 3 months until they move on to Kindergarten.
- Ensure continuity of care for children during their earliest years with few transitions.
- Stay in a location that allows for exploring our community and enhancing our social development in regard to our place in our world.
- Continue to provide a quality early childhood experience for our children.
- Enhance the safe environment for our children with a stronger security system and direct access for the children to the outside.
- Improve access for families with disabilities.
